About the event
To birth your own sacred medicine tool is a powerful deeply experiential journey. It's called drum birthing because you are the one going through the process - I am simply your shamanic midwife. I work in great depth to assist and guide you throughout the weekend, but ultimately you'll be doing the physical work. The weekend begins with a shamanic meditation and learning more about how and why drums have been used throughout human history, and why it continues to be relevant in these times.
You'll choose which hoop to work with and complete its preparation as you begin connecting with its energy and dive into key teachings from the tree. This will include a tree connection exercise outside. We continue the day working with wood with the creation of your own drum beater as you sand and hone it until it is right for you. You'll be given direction how to stuff the beater head and finish it. We'll honour the teachings from the day with a blessing ceremony. Before leaving, you'll choose the hide that you will be working with and begin its preparation through soaking it in water overnight.
Gthering in sacred circle again, day two begins with assessing your soaked hide. Phase one will be marking and cutting it as guided. You'll then spend time cutting the lacing and then move on to piercing the holes in readiness to begin the process of bringing the hide and hoop together - joining the energy of both wood and hide to birth a new life. We'll work at the pace that's right for you and you'll be encouraged to take photos so that you'll have a lasting record of every stage of the process. This is where the true magic happens, every single drum has a unique energy, signature and personal meaning.
The weekend completes with a welcoming ceremony and blessing.
